Newcastle United have completed a £51 million deal to sign Belgian winger Matias Fernandez-Pardo from Lille, beating the transfer deadline with a statement of intent. The 21-year-old, who netted eight goals in 29 Ligue 1 appearances last season, has committed to a long-term contract and will wear the No. 20 shirt at St James' Park.

Fernandez-Pardo was part of Belgium's squad for the 2026 World Cup, having switched international allegiance from Spain, where he only featured in youth camps. His arrival pushes the Magpies' summer spending to £262 million, signaling a clear ambition under head coach Matthias Jaissle to compete on all fronts.

The signing facilitates the loan departure of Nick Woltemade to Juventus, who paid £3.5 million for a season-long deal with no buy option. Woltemade joined Newcastle just a year ago for a club-record £69 million but struggled to secure a regular starting spot under the new system.

Jaissle praised Fernandez-Pardo's explosiveness and technical quality, while the player himself expressed excitement about the club's attacking philosophy. With Yoane Wissa and Will Osula also in the ranks, Newcastle's frontline now possesses a dynamic blend of pace, creativity, and physicality that could reshape their season.
