Ipswich Town Launches Investigation into Racist Abuse of Abdul Fatawu

Ipswich Town have launched an investigation after forward Abdul Fatawu was subjected to racist abuse online. The club released a statement on social media saying they were "aware of online racist abuse" directed at the 22-year-old Ghanaian winger and described it as "completely unacceptable". The incident occurred following Ipswich's 1-0 defeat to Everton on Saturday, a match in which Fatawu was sent off after receiving two yellow cards.

The club confirmed they are working alongside the Premier League and relevant authorities to identify those responsible. "We are investigating this incident alongside the Premier League and the relevant authorities. We will continue to offer Abdul our full support," the statement read. Fatawu, who joined Ipswich from Leicester City in July for £20m on a five-year contract, has made five appearances for the club this season.

The abuse has sparked widespread condemnation, with fans' group Reach Tractors calling for accountability. "We're disgusted by reports of racial abuse directed at Abdul Fatawu," the group said. "Racism has no place in football or society. Everyone at Reach Tractors stands firmly with Abdul." Many others on social media also expressed their outrage and support for the player.

Fatawu, who has scored three goals in 32 appearances for Ghana, featured in all four of his country's games at the 2026 World Cup, including against England in the group stage. Ipswich Town have reiterated their commitment to supporting the player and ensuring that those responsible are held accountable. The investigation is ongoing.
